Welcome!
New to amookos.org? If this is your first visit, we recommend you do two things.
First, read the Llewellyn Encyclopedia entry for AMOOKOS. It is here. The historical prerequisite for participation in AMOOKOS was to have received initiation into the nath lineage.
Second, read the Nath Handbook by Santainath - a female western born initiate of three branches of the nath tradition. As she points out, the nath's, some of whom participate in the work of AMOOKOS, "are a constantly evolving (and devolving) group who, for thousands of years, have been seeking liberation by any means possible.

This is an essay prepared by Vishvanath to introduce individuals to our branch of the Nath sampradaya. The lineage list is regularly updated.
Introduction
Historically, both religious and occult paths have thrived in India and, through organisations like the Theosophical Society, have been highly influential in the west. The social, political and religious environment in India has nurtured the development of a wide range of orders and sects including Sufis, Tantriks, etc. Many of these (like the Nath tradition) have developed monestaries (ashrams) and pilgrimage routes and individual wandering seekers have often been supported in their journey by householders giving them food and shelter.

To ensure the website can be upgraded more easily in future amookos.org has been updated. The external site will provide basic information to the public about AMOOKOS together with links to other sites of interest.
The news section has been moved into the member only area, together with a wide range of members resources. It is hoped that the new form will encourage greater interactivity and communication among members internationally.
